Lake Powell, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful places in Arizona. The high desert lake is a dream come true for the outdoor enthusiast. There is A LOT of information to know about this vast wilderness area. IT IS MASSIVE and there are numerous areas to enter into the lake / camp.
This post has pictures from our own trip camping outside of Big Water, UT. Stay tuned for other posts about day trips in Powell and our overnight kayaking trip.

(A tiny bit of relevant information regarding camping in other areas) Lone Rock is a great place for RVs and boondocking right on the beach. There are also campgrounds at Wahweap and Antelope Point marinas. If you are looking for something a little more remote, you are in luck because there are ample forest service and BLM roads where the spots are plentiful and the crowds are few. (Shown above) Grand Staircase Escalante and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area allow dispersed camping through out. Do you get as excited as I do looking at these maps and seeing the endless camping possibilities?

NP Road 230 just outside of Big Water, UT is an incredible area to camp and it is not too crowded. Please be aware that many of these roads require 4x4 and anything near the water is quite sandy. As always in Arizona, pay attention to the road conditions and bring plenty of water.

As far as day activities go there are plenty! Bring a kayak or paddleboard to enjoy the views from the water. There are also two fun drives from the 230 road, Smoky Mountain Overlook and Alstrom Point. These destinations require 4x4 but are a great day trip before relaxing beachside for the evening. If you are feeling really adventurous there are even roads that will take you all the way to Escalante, UT.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out! We are happy to help you plan a wonderful Lake Powell adventure
Great post! Love the pictures and detail. Will need to add this to our bucket list.
